On 10th July, Emilee, a new project from singer, songwriter and composer Emily Marie Richou offers us a glimpse into her own mysterious world, a reflection of inner landscapes and atmospheres where fear, doubt, hope and inner joy co-exist.

With ‘Mely Out of Reach’ we are introduced to the character Mely R set out on a search to find her spirit that was once stolen from her. With this mysterious dreamy ballad, we discover Mely’s journey to feeling whole again and her urge to come out of the shadow and ‘reach out’ to the world. With themes of confinement juxtapositioned with a yearn to share love, the song provides somewhat of an emotional rollercoaster.

The overlapping elements and symphonic textures in ‘Mely Out of Reach’ creates a cinematic feel. A ballad that displays vulnerability and honesty. The song teeters on haunting with melancholic piano, matched with wistful expressive vocal melodies. The ternary rhythm and drums change offers a sudden glimmer of hope with the song ending on an uplifting note, suggesting Mely has stepped out of her shadow and returned to reality. Finally, she appears whole again, embracing her full existence.
